Volunteering

It is YOUR responsibility to make sure your 4 hours of Association volunteering is completed. Please check back often for new opportunities:

All coaches, managers, treasurers, and anyone else with access to personal member information MUST complete a RCMP Criminal Record Check every 3 years IF a volunteer disclosure form is filled out every year.

Please make sure your Criminal Record/Disclosure process is up to date, as soon as possible.

To complete a CRC, there are a few steps you will have to take:

1. Identity verification: In the new eCRC system, an applicant’s identity is verified using their BC Services Card. If the applicant is using the BC Services Card to access the online service for the first time, they will be directed to activate their card by video or in person through Service BC. Please note if applicants choose to activate their card in person, a mobile device is still required (iPhone, iPad, or Android) This does take a few minutes but is fairly painless.
If you have already created a BC Services Card account you can move straight to Step 2.
2. Head to https://justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck to start the process.
3. Use the code: W7NK7CAUF4
  • Amateur athletics benefits the community as a whole, strengthening community and social ties.
  • Like most organizations, Langley Fastball Association relies on dedicated volunteers in order to offer the very best programs possible.
  • All of our participants are required to provide a minimum of 4 volunteer hours to aid in the success of our programs.  sign up for volunteer hours is done during registration, through the automated registration system.

Below are a few notes about the Volunteer program

Volunteer Shifts

  1. You are responsible for making sure you complete your volunteer shift and are aware of when it is.
  2. We will be using Sign-Up Genius this year to schedule your shift. You will receive a reminder email 48 hours before your shift.
  3. Your volunteer shift can be found on the Sign-Up Genius link that you will receive when you confirm your shift.
  4. We know that life happens, and plans change, so you may need to change your shift. This needs to be done with at least 48-hours notice of your shift so we have time to make sure our event is not impacted.
  5. To change your shift please send an email to Christina at lfavolunteerco@gmail.com.
  6. If you do not show up for your scheduled shift, we will process your deposit immediately.
  7. Specific Concession shifts will not be determined until closer to the date of the tournament. You will select a time of day and then we will contact you with the exact shift later.

Deposits

  1. $150 Volunteer Deposits for U8 & Up and $100 Uniform Deposits for U10 and up. $50 Uniform Deposits for U6 & U8.
  2. These are required to be handed in at Uniform Hand-Out.
  3. Uniforms will not be handed out until deposits are received.
  4. We are excited to announce that we have heard you and you will now be able to use your Credit Card to submit your deposit.
  5. If you are choosing the new Credit Card option, please print off the attached form and bring to uniform hand-out instead of a cheque. You will still need to present your card so we can confirm the information.
  6. Should you choose to continue to use cheques, please make them payable for April 30th, 2021. They will not be cashed until the end of the season or if you fail to show for your scheduled volunteer shift.

If you are able to commit to more, or are looking to offer a unique service that we hadn’t thought of, please contact our volunteer coordinator directly. lfavolunteerco@gmail.com

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • Pre-Season Field Prep
    • Those fields don’t prep themselves after the long wet winter! We start off the season right with a bit of weeding, a bit of sweeping and a bit of fun. Our field prep days will get you involved in making sure those bases are straight, and home plate is where it should be. Digging for the second base pin is always a fun way to start the season.
  • Concession Help
    • Assist our Food and Beverage Coordinators with the concession stand. Its our job to keep those ball players fed and watered as they work through the tournaments this season. You could end up doing numerous jobs during your shift, including cooking on the grill, running food, washing dishes, taking orders, or running the cash register. Shifts to be determined at a later date.
  • Coaches and Assistant Coaches
    • We can’t run our teams without you! If you have a keen interest in make their child’s youth sport experience positive this role could be for you. Some fastpitch knowledge is desirable but no means a requirement! ***Coaching fulfills your family’s volunteer commitment for all kids***
  • Tournament First-Aid
    • You must have a minimum of a Level 1 first-aid ticket. You will be available on-site during a tournament to administer first-aid where required. This will entail carrying a first-aid kit and also a radio so you are available at all times during your shift. Shifts to be determined at a later date.
  • Uniform Hand-Out & Hand-In
    • Under the supervision of our uniform managers, you will help the players find the right size, number and colour for a great season. You will also help coaches grab their equipment for the season. A fast paced but fun event, this is always one of our most popular volunteer jobs.
At the end of the season you will collect uniforms and equipment from coaches and help our coordinators get it all ready to be put away for the season.
  • Team Photo Nights
    • Make sure our team photos run smoothly by helping coaches and families fill out forms. Also help the photographer organize teams to stay on schedule. You may also be required to collect money for pub night, our Neufeld Farms orders, and possibly sell LFA apparel.
  • Tournament Staff
    • Help us keep our tournaments running smoothly. Your 4 hour shift could include setting up fences, prepping fields, running equipment to games, and anything else that our tournament director requires. Shifts will be determined at a later date.
